
With the notification email of handover Wasl will provide Premise no, which is what DEWA needs to activate electricity connection for your townhouse. You can also see the Premise no near the Electricty or Water Meter located in the garage. You will need to register for Activation of Electricity and Water (Move-in) Service. Note that if you have an existing account as tenant at your current residence it is not possible to transfer that account to your Gardenia unit. Transfer only works for tenants and not owners. Therefore you will be required to apply for a new activation(Move-in). DEWA takes 24 hours to activate new account. You have the option to visit DEWA Customer happiness centres or apply online. Location of Customer Happiness Centres (Due to COVID it is preferred to apply online) Few of the suggested locations are
a) Ibn Battuta Mall (China Court)
Sunday to Wednesday from 08:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Thursday from 08:00 AM to 12:00 AM, Friday & Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM
b) Dewa Headoffice located near the Wafi Mall
Saturday to Thursday From 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM
c) Al Quoz
Saturday to Thursday From 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM

Some centers may be closed and an option is to apply online.
It should take about 10 minutes to fill and submit an application. The documents required will be
i) Title deed OR copy of SPA(page 2)/Initial Sale issued by Dubai Land Department ii) Emirates ID copy(both sides). iii) Security deposit (refer end of this FAQ for the deposit amount)
Apply online via website or mobile app by selecting the option Activation of Electricity/Water (Move-in)and supply the following information - Title deed (for owners) document OR copy of Valid EJARI (for tenants) - Copy of Emirates ID(for private or personal use) OR Trade license (for companies).
- Passport copy (for GCC Nationals / Investors).
- Credit card for payment
If you have an existing DEWA account and are also the new owner for the Gardenia Townhouse you can add one more account under your profile with new address. DEWA account name should match with the owner name shown in the SPA. In case a villa is in joint name it may be better to apply at the DEWA Customer Happiness Centres.
In the absense of Title Deed you can upload page 2 of SPA or Initial Sale Agreement issued by Dubai Land Department.

How much is the security deposit for activation of electricity/water? The security deposit and fee for expatriate is AED 4130. As per His Highness Sheikh Hamdan's initiative the amount has been reduced to AED 2130 (50% off of AED4000 security deposit) in the meanwhile.
